Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does Noctilume mean?

Noctilume (pronounced nok-til-oom) draws its inspiration from the phenomenon of noctilucence, the state of being luminous in the dark. It comes from the name given to the ethereal layer of high-altitude clouds found in the mesosphere, called noctilucent clouds, which are visible only at astronomical twilight.

The name is symbolic to the role we take with our clients. Like the elusive noctilucent clouds, we make an appearance, then seamlessly blend into the background. While our work involves diving into details, we also make sure to maintain a strategic view to ensure our solutions are holistic and comprehensive. Most importantly, we provide guidance only where our clients want or need them—where they feel in the dark.

  • How does it work?

We start with a conversation. Most clients know something is off — growth has stalled, the business is consuming more than it's giving back, or doing more just isn't solving the problem — but they can't quite name it or find a way through.

We listen first. We hear out your successes, challenges, and what you're working toward, then identify where we can have the most impact and tailor a recommendation from there. The pace, scope, and intensity of our work together depends on your goals, comfort level, and budget — we meet you where you're at.

If something falls outside our wheelhouse, we'll say so and connect you with someone in our network who can help.

  • What sectors do you work with?

We work across industries. While our roots are in the creative sector, our clients have included businesses in interior design, real estate, food & beverage, fitness, skincare, and more.

The common thread isn't industry — it's founders who are deeply skilled at what they do and ready for strategic support on the business side. If that sounds like you, let’s chat.

  • How long will it take to see results?

A strategy sets a direction, but it still takes work for momentum to build and change to take effect. All that will take time.

The engagement itself may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months or more, depending on what you need. The goals and targets we will set may take a few months to a few years to reach.

We’ve seen some of our clients make significant progress within a few months, while others are still working through challenges a year or more in.

  • How much do your services cost?

Each engagement is unique and the cost will depend on the complexity of your challenges, how quickly you're hoping to see results, and your available budget. We start with a conversation to better understand these aspects, and from there we can provide you with a proposal that outlines our recommended approach and fees.

  • How small of a scope will you take on?

We have options for every stage and budget.

If you're early-stage or just getting started, our self-guided workbook is a low-risk, cost-effective way to get some strategic direction — and every purchase includes a free consultation when you're done.

If you want occasional guidance without committing to a full engagement, Strategy Tune-Ups ($399/year) gives you one 30-minute call per quarter — agenda set by you, no pressure.

For established clients who want ongoing access between projects, Strategic Access ($2,400–$4,800/year) provides a set number of advisory hours you can use flexibly throughout the year.

And if your needs are more complex but you're not ready to commit to a larger scope, we can always start with a pilot project and expand from there.

  • Do you offer workplace strategy services?

Workplace strategy is where our founder launched her career, but it is not an offering at Noctilume. If you're looking for workplace strategy support, we'd be happy to point you toward someone in our network who can help.

  • Can I offer your services as part of my business offering?

Yes — in the right circumstances. If you're a consultant, agency, or firm that occasionally needs senior-level strategy and operations support for your clients, we're open to conversations about subcontracting arrangements.

We've worked as an embedded partner for other firms before, delivering work directly to their clients under their umbrella. If that sounds like something that could work for your business, let's talk.

  • What if I need help with something else?

We are tapped into a network of experts and professionals that can do things we’re not so great at. Sometimes we will engage them as part of our team, other times we’ll bridge the connection for you to work with them directly.

  • You sell apparel?!

Yes, we have a small collection of subtly branded t-shirts available for purchase.

Designed to inspire and motivate, these shirts reflect the values and messages we often share with our clients.
